Save the Homeland is the eighth installment in the Harvest Moon series, released for the PlayStation 2. Although still a great game, it's looked down upon by some fans for differing so much to others in the series. For example, the player can't marry. The protagonist's grandfather, Tony, has recently passed away and they are left his farm. Originally, they come to collect their belongings, but while doing so, they encounter the Harvest Goddess who asks them to save Sugar Village from being turned into a resort and amusement park. By completing any of the nine scenarios in one year, they are able to save or lose the village. Once the year is over, the game resets itself so the player can complete one of the other scenarios. Money, animals, profiles and endings carry over files.
Your grandfather has recently passed, and your father believes that it's time to give away the farm he once owned. The farm is located in Sugar Valley, a town which is set to become a theme park by next year. You are sent to collect your grandfather's belongings from the farm, and while there you are asked to check on the townsfolk as well. Soon after, you are bound by a fateful encounter and asked to be the town's savior. The time is set -- you have one year. Can you save the homeland?
