Using Tools

In Pioneers of Olive Town, players will utilize all of their tools to develop the land which once belonged to their Grandfather. The Player can use the hammer, hoe, sickle, watering can, and axe for cultivation, but they are not only limited to those tools. Other useable tools include the bucket, fishing rod, camera and leash.

Skills

For more in-depth information, see the Skills page.

As you use tools, their respective skills will increase. Higher skill levels allow you to use more powerful actions. Skill level effects function separately to tool upgrade abilities, and ranking up skill levels will earn you titles! [1]

  • Logging: Logging requires the use of the Axe. Skill experience increases as trees are felled.
  • Reaping: Reaping requires the use of the Sickle. Skill experience increases as grass and weeds are cut.
  • Mining: Mining requires the use of the Hammer. Skill experience increases as rocks and boulders are cleared, and mining points are exhausted.
  • Draining: Draining requires the use of the Bucket. Skill experience increases as ponds are drained and chests are found.
  • Fishing: Fishing requires the use of the Fishing Rod and Fish Trap. Skill experience increases as fish are caught.
  • Fieldwork: Fieldwork requires the use of the Hoe and Watering Can. Skill experience increases as fields are tilled, seeds are planted, plants are watered, and also as crops are harvested.

Tool Upgrades

To upgrade your tool, you must have the right materials, Gold, and the previous level of that tool. You can only upgrade the tool one level at a time -- you cannot, for example, upgrade an Iron Axe immediately to an Orichalcum Axe. After gathering all the right stuff, drop by Worker's Base Tool Shop, and Clemens will happily upgrade your tool right there on the spot!

The materials for the tool upgrades vary little, and generally require the same amount of Gold and materials. Higher upgrades require materials from different areas on your farm, so if you want the better tools, make sure you're fixing those bridges! After you ship one of each material, you may also buy them at the Olive General Store.

Other Tools

The Camera and the Leash are tools that can't be upgraded.

Camera

"A sophisticated camera that can capture every last detail. You're bound to make plenty of lasting memories with it."

The camera function makes a return! Take pictures of your favorite things (or people!) and share them with friends via online connection. You can upload your own photos, or take a look at a gallery uploaded by other players!

Photography Collection at Olive Museum

If you take a picture of wildlife around Olive Town and your farm, you can donate the picture to Olive Museum. You'll be able to see a statue a day after donating in the photography display room. You can also purchase these statues from Beth to display on counters in your home.

Leash

"A simple leash for pets. Put it on your furry friend and you'll be able to go on a walk with them!"

The leash can be used to take your pets for a walk. To use, just select the leash in your item menu and then interact with your pet. They'll follow you anywhere you go! Pets can be purchased from The Hoof House Animal Shop after you expand your home at Nigel's Handiworks.

Playing with your Pet

To play with your pet, purchase the Bouncy Ball or Mouse Ball from Olive General Store. Each ball can be used only one time. To use, make sure you're on a walk with your pet, and then select the ball and throw it.

Tool Efficiency

Certain actions will be affected only by the type of tool you use. Draining ponds and lakes can be done faster using an Orichalcum Bucket or several Suction Pumps.
