Tools (Story of Seasons: Friends of Mineral Town)

Tools are equippable items used to preform various functions by the player, such as clearing land or gathering materials. At the beginning of the game, players start with five basic tools: Hammer, Axe, Sickle, Watering Can, and Hoe. An additional sixth tool, the Fishing Rod, can be obtained by viewing an event at Zack's House.

Tool Functions

There are six main tools in the game, each with its own ability. These tools can be upgraded, and then charged by holding B for more powerful effects.

• Sickle: Used to cut Grass, Weeds, and Crops. Harvests Fodder from Grass, and a random in-season Colored Grass from Weeds.
• Hoe: Used to till the land for sowing seeds. Can till untilled ground, tilled ground with seed, and cut squares of grass. Used to dig in the mines.
• Axe: Used to cut Branches and Stumps (depending on the level) for Lumber.
• Hammer: Used to break Stones, Big Rocks, and Boulders (depending on the level) for Material Stone. Can also break Fences and mine rocks, as well as flatten tilled land.
• Watering Can: Used to water crops and tilled land. Carries a limited quantity of water, which can be refilled at any body of water.
• Fishing Rod: Used to obtain fish. Can be used at any body of water except for the Fish Pond.

There are also additional tools. which cannot be upgraded.

• Pedometer: Used to counts the number of steps the player takes when carried. Does not need to be actively equipped -- steps will count as long as it's in the Rucksack.
• Clippers: Used to obtain Fur from unsheared Sheep, Alpacas, and Angora Rabbits.
• Milker: Used to obtain Milk from Cows.
• Brush: Used to brush livestock, which will increase their Affection.
• Crop Seeds: Used to plant crops.
• Breeding Kits: Used to impregnate livestock.

Tool Upgrades

Tools gain experience each time the player uses them. The Tool Menu shows each tool's experience bar along with a row of grayed out ores beneath it. Ores required to upgrade tools can be found by breaking rocks in the Spring Mine or Lake Mine.

Once a tool reaches a certain amount of experience, a message will display on the screen notifying the player that it can be upgraded at the Forge. The corresponding ore icon beneath the experience bar will also light up, indicating that the tool can now be upgraded to that level.

The player can then pay Saibara gold and the required ore to upgrade their tool. Once a certain amount of time has passed, the player can collect their tool from Saibara. Until the tool is ready, the player will be without their tool and unable to enter the Forge.

Players are not required to upgrade their tools sequentially. Tools will continue to gain experience points, even if they are eligible for an upgrade, until they have maxed out at 100%. This means players can opt to avoid the cost of the earlier upgrades and only pay the ore/gold cost for the Mithril upgrade. However, keep in mind that the larger the upgrade gap, the longer it will take to upgrade the tool.

Cursed Tools

Cursed tools are separate tools from the player's starting tools and must be found by tilling the floors in the Lake Mine. As of patch 1.1.2, players can no longer find cursed tools without having upgraded all their base tools (including the Fishing Rod) to level 5 (Mithril grade).

Cursed tools are significantly stronger than the basic tools, even when upgraded, however, their stamina cost is quite hefty. These tools can be "blessed" by a variety of methods, lowering the stamina cost to use them. Until a cursed tool is blessed, it cannot be unequipped until it is either removed by Carter via confessional or it's "blessed" requirements are met. Cursed tools can be added or removed from the player's tool bag as long as the tools have not been equipped (meaning it was used or held in the player's hand).

Mythic Tools

Once a player has collected all Cursed tools (needs to be confirmed) and fulfilled their Blessed requirements, Mythic Ore (known as Philosopher's Stones in the JP version) will become available in the Spring Mine. Mythic Ore is an "ore" Saibara requires in order to upgrade the players Blessed tools to their final form.
