Introduction

Harvest Moon: A New Beginning (牧場物語 はじまりの大地, Bokujou Monogatari Hajimari no Daichi) begins with the protagonist meeting Dunhill, an ambitious mayor with a good heart and determination to restore his town, Echo Village, to its former glory. As you witness one of the last residents leaving the town in attempts to find success elsewhere, it sets a bleak tone and creates a sense of urgency for the player to assist in Echo Village's revival.

This settlement, surrounded by mountains, was once home to many people and full of life.

However, that golden age is but a memory...

This town is now the destination of a capable youngster, who brings with them a heart full of excited determination.

After the protagonist arrives, they find themselves tasked with not only running a farm but rebuilding the town itself. Using resources from the surrounding area, the player gathers materials for blueprints in order to construct the homes new residents will move into. Unlike previous games with predetermined maps, this game allows the player to decide the layout of both their farm and the town.

Through hard work and planning, the protagonist will make Echo Village more attractive location to new residents, returning villagers, and potential marriage candidates. As more characters are unlocked through gameplay, new features are made available to customize the player's gaming experience.
