Animals (Harvest Moon: Island of Happiness)

You don't start with a dog or with a horse, both have to be obtained through events. The game introduces pet food, which can be stored in the silo in the Pet barn to feed your pets.

Accommodation

As per usual, Chickens in the chicken coop. Which you have to build.

Cows and Sheep in the barn. Which you will have to build.

And Pets (Horse, Dog) in the Pet Barn, which you start with.

Menu

The animal tab in your menu will open up once you get any of the 4 categories of animals (chickens, cows, sheep, and pets) Here the Menu displays:

• Animal's mood - Happy, Ill, Angry, etc
• Animal's Affection for you. Maximum 10 hearts.
• Awards won. Gold/Silver/Bronze.
• If they are pregnant.
• Age
• If they have eaten.
• If they have been milked/sheared.
• Meter bar showing how close to getting ill they are. When it is full, they will be ill.

Chickens

Chickens are easy animals to raise and don't take much work. Make sure to pick your chickens up everyday and feed them and they will get attached to you in no time! Taking them out will also make them happy. You have to feed your chickens Chicken Feed, which means having to buy it from Mirabelle's shop for 10G.

Affection Raising

• Pick up and drop. Everyday.
• Play Petting mini-game. When Chicken feels like it.

Different from most other games, sometimes your chicken will have a "hand" icon over their head. Touch them and a short minigame will begin. Your Objective is to rub the chick/chicken until it is satisfied. There is no time limit or bonuses. After the minigame there will be a short 3d Animation of the chick/chicken all happy. This makes the Chickens very happy.

If you want to get the most out of your chickens, you should build a Maker house from Goran, and then get him to construct a mayonnaise maker. Using the Maker, it will instantly turn your eggs into Mayonnaise which will sell for more.

Chicken Coops

Due to the Game's Versatile Building construction, the game will let you create your coop as you desire with any number of feeders/incubators, and also a shipping bin inside.

The Perfect Coop

Below is a screenshot of the menu you see when looking at your expansion rate in the game. It uses the same structure on all your buildings to show all the different factors. To build the perfect coop and gain 100% renovation on it, you must have built all the incubators (4) all the feeders (10 - not including starting 2) upgrade from small to medium to large, build a shipping bin, and upgrade feed storage (Silo) from small to medium to large.

Pets

"The island that grows with you" gives you a maximum of two pets, neither of which you start with. To obtain such pets, you must first befriend the islanders. The game also introduces a new "pet barn" with its own storage compartment for pet food. You can buy pet food from Mirabelle for 10G. Gannon will upgrade the pet food capacity for you if you want.

The two pets are:

• Dog
• Horse

Free Dog

If you befriend Mirabelle to two hearts, and have access to the forest (have Bridge 2 built), enter the forest and an event will follow. The event will trigger on a rainy or snowy day.

You can see the wild dog roam in the forest on some days before owning him.

Dog Care

To make your dog happy so you can win competitions you should:

• Pick it up everyday.
• Play Petting mini-game when dog feels like it.
• Feed it everyday. (this may not be required for it to live, but it is for it to like you.)

Free Horse

If you befriend Chen to one heart, you will receive a horse.

Horse Care

Your horse is here of course so you can ride it around the island for easy access. Beware though as the horse CANNOT run diagonally. To make your horse happy so you can win competitions you should:

• Brush it everyday.
• Ride it everyday.
• Feed it everyday. (this may not be required for it to live, but it is for it to like you.)
